Peace: Challenge prompt response: Non-erotic

A little snippet based off the prompts offered over at musemuggers


She wasn't the brightest star in the cluster, but she did know when someone was attempting to pull the wool over her eyes. Forward and back. Back and forth. The thoughts kept playing over in her mind. Could it be possible? Was he trying to screw her over. This person who had been her best friend since they both entered the world some twenty years ago. Did he really expect her to believe him when he said he hasn’t done anything against her? He hadn’t gone behind her back to another mutual friend, spilling out all of her secrets. The secrets she had only trusted him with.

She paced the length of the small room, chewing ever so slightly on her bottom lip. Could he betray her in such a manner. He never had before. What made him do so now? Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him standing in the doorway, her pacing not stopping as she lifted her hand to wave him off without a word.

“Are you mad?”

Good question. Was she? Did feel anger over his actions. She could honestly say that wasn’t the emotion most prevalent in her mind. If anything she felt so much more. Hurt, betrayal. Disappointment. These emotions played on her mind. Not anger. Her voice soft, she finally stopped her movement, her head turning to gaze upon her friend. “No ...”

Her friend took a step closer, encouraged by the whispered utterance that fell from her lips. “Then what?”

She stepped back with a shake of her head. “I don’t know. I don’t want to talk about it. Just go. Leave me.” She turned her back towards him, resuming her pacing.

“Never will I leave you, but I will give you peace.” He stood there for a moment before she heard his footsteps fade off as he left the room.

A single tear fell down her cheek, as she turned to watch him go. “With you, I’ll never find peace.”
