Queer as Folk - Finale Based - Spoiler Warning - MM - PG
A short fic based on the characters from Queer as Folk and the finale. These characters are not mine. Just playing with them a little, expanding on one of the final scenes of this show.
Justin stood at the edge of the bed, watching as Brian slept. He had somehow been able to slip out unnoticed by the other man. He almost wanted wake him up, get one more kiss before he left. This decision had been so sudden. His gazed around the loft. He had been so much time here, living here, loving here. He'd miss it.
Most of all, he'd miss the man sprawled so casually across the bed on his stomach. Justin reached out his hand, wanting to reach out to feel Brian's bare skin, but he stopped himself. He really didn't want to wake him up. It'd be easier if he just left now in the quiet of the night. Leave for a whole new life in New York City.
No matter what he did or who he was with in the future, one thing was for certain, this man, Brian Kinney, had left his mark forever on him. This man had taught him so much since that first night they met. He had been seventeen, young, reckless, and naive. This man became God to him. In the end, he was just a man though. A man like any other man, except that he lived by his own rules. He lived on his own and he didn't give a fuck about anything or anyone, or so he liked people to think.
Brian Kinney did have a heart, and somehow he knew he had made his way in it. Now everything had changed. They would be apart, but even with the distance, one fact remained. They had loved. He gazed down at the bed one final time before shaking his head and taking a step back. If he waited any longer he'd be late for his flight. He turned and picked up his bags, leaving the loft and the man he loved behind.
Brian opened his eyes as he heard Justin turn away from him. He hadn't been sleeping this entire time. He had felt Justin's eyes on him, and he had laid their silent, allowing the younger man to watch him. He could have opened his eyes, said one last good-bye, but the thought of doing that pained him. He didn't want Justin's last memory of him to be sad. He wanted Justin to go off to New York City without any regrets.
Letting him go was probably the hardest thing he had ever had to do in his life, but he knew in order for them to both be happy, they had to do this. They had to go their own ways. Justin wasn't meant to stay here and live this life with him. Justin had always been destined for more, and he didn't want to be the one to hold him back.
They could still see each other, but something told him this was the end. This was it. They would go their separate ways, and never return together. They could at some point, but deep down he wondered if that was even possible. Maybe someday.
Brian pushed himself off the bed, his eyes gazing around the loft. So many memories here. So many ... He shook his head, moving to pull on his pants. He couldn't lay around here getting all depressed, but the fact of the matter was he didn't know what to do with himself now. The loft was quiet. Even quieter than normal. Almost as if the place knew Sunshine was gone. Perhaps it did. They had both made their mark on this place.
Justin was gone. Those words kept going over and over in his mind as he stayed standing there. How quickly things changed.
